Carnaval de Dunkerque

Carnivals throughout the world have a religious character, limited to the end of Lent. Not here, or at least not very much, where there are hundreds of them throughout the year.

The most famous, the nosiest, the most mental, but also the oldest, is the Dunkerque Carnival. For weeks on end (01/23 to 03/06) groups called fisherbands take the measure of each other, confront each other with sarabands and songs, disperse and liven up the town, and finally come together in one huge choir to celebrate their sailors, honour Jean BART, and claim, with body and voice, their herrings thrown from the top of the belfry.
Beer, Men dressed as women or else (more than 15 fishermen bands), Brass Band, Chantey, Dirty Songs... something you have to live.

If you’ve never done Carnival here, you’ve never seen a real carnival !

The Brian Jonestown Massacre...

The Brian Jonestown Massacre (BJM) is an American psychedelic rock, formed in the early 1990s, whose name combines Brian Jones, the famous guitarist that brought psychedelia to the Rolling Stones and the mass suicide occurred at Jonestown in Guyana (the Jonestown Massacre). Indeed Brian Jones is one who bring passion for music to Anton Newcombe, founder and leader of the group. His influence is constant as in many parts of the BJM, there are all kinds of Indian sounds that Brian Jones brought in his time, the use of "weird-chinese-fucking-shit" and the psychedelic side. But the BJM is fed by multiple influences which are more audible with Velvet Underground, My Bloody Valentine and Spacemen 3.

The group is known for its constant desire to remain independent of the majors, to "keep the music in hell" (keep music evil, under the label of Anton Newcombe). Throughout its existence, the group members will leave, come back, sabotaging their concert, using drugs excessively, fighting ... which will be worth a certain reputation for their concerts, while the grandeur of the BJM is its music .
The main members are Joel Gion (tambourine), Matt Hollywood (bass) and Anton Newcombe, author and composer who plays over 80 instruments, the brains behind the group, considered a genius by many experts (some shouting loudly: " Dylan, Lennon, Newcombe! ").

Have a beautiful day,
