Continental Circus...

If the film was released in France in 1972, this is during 1969 that Jerome Laperrousaz would follow the caravan of the Continental Circus to film the lives of these "gladiators" of modern times.

In fact, it goes particularly pointing his camera on the pilot Jack Findlay and his wife Nanou.
Why filming an australian rider who was going to end the year at a modest 13th place in Class 500 on its Linto (an Aermacchi who was coupled with 2 engines of 250 cm3)?

The answer must be sought in the previous year: in 1968, Jack Findlay, pure private pilot, riding a modest single cylinder Matchless, finished runner-up 500 of the world behind the untouchable Agostini on his MV official. The following years, Findlay would finish at honorable place in Class 500 cm3 and 750 cm3. In 1975 he was crowned European champions on a 750 cm3 private Yamaha. It will stop the race in 1978.

In 1992 he became Technical Director of FIM Grand Prix, until the end of 2001. Jack Findlay died May 19, 2007 at the age of 72 years.

Legendary movie, "Continental Circus" will brings, by watching it, moments of mixed feelings: happiness and sorrow, smiles and tears.

Shivers of pleasure in hearing the magical sound of the MV D'Agostini that resonates in the air of the fabulous Spa circuit. But also sad to see the face of some drivers like Bill Ivy who was killed riding his 350 V4 Java July 12, 1969, the circuit Karl Marx Stadt in the former GDR and which we can see the funeral in the film and the 'tribute drivers on the grid.

Sadness also reviewed at the beginning of the film, the face of what was blond angel Santiago Herrero, who was killed a year after filming on the circuit of the Isle of Man.

This is not being ghoulish to insist on those accidents. It just show, to the younger generation,  that at this time when a pilot took the start of a race,  he could face the victory or the death.
Do not forget all those men who gave their lives to satisfy their passion.

Have a Beautiful day;

405 Mi16... What a great car you've been over these many years; At 18 years old, you were still able to reach 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 60 mph) close to the original 8.5 sec. I admit 160cv, under the hood, are pretty common those days but in 1992 it was pretty good. I remember the time when you reach 220 km/h (137 mph), almost the top speed.
Time to go for a newer car...

Well done (again) Fernando... 4th after a gripping race, you're still the leader with 37 pts.
Unlucky Kamui (again!?). Your time will come...

See you in Malaysia next weekend.

BPS...

The company B.P.S. was created in 1973 with Jacques and Henri Boudet, Gilles and Denis Portal and Marcel Seurat.

The first model produced is the Elan 125, a standard cross type. It uses a Sachs two-stroke engine, mated to a six-speed gearbox.
This machine will allow the firm to race in the french championship, then the endurance world championship, and to win many successes.

In 1974, the Boudet brothers decide that B.P.S. will import an Italian brand -SWM-  in France under the name of B.P.S.. This decision did not please the brothers Portal and Marcel Seurat, so they decided to leave the company.

In 1975, the range B.P.S. revolves around thirty models, both types of road and off-road. The brand also decided to import another Italian brand: Aspes.

In 1976 a new plant is constructed to increase power production.

A new 1980 law slows the progression of the brand. The bulk of sales was achieved by 50 cc mopeds, these models are now banned. Young people between 16 and 18 are limited to 80 cc against 125 before. Sales collapse, only the enduro models retain good sales figures, with good image acquired in competition.

Precisely, the leaders of B.P.S. had understood that the best advertising for the brand was the competition, but competition will lead the company to ruin, most of the profits being invested for the races, and not to create new models.

The company put the key under the door in 1982.

GIMA Motorcycles...

GIMA is a registered 100% French, well known to motorcycle enthusiasts.

GIMA: (Groupement Industriel Metallurgique et Automobile) has manufactured small-displacement motorcycles from 1947 to 1954. The engines who fitted these machines (with Ydral) were the famous AMC engines, manufactured at Clermont-Ferrand.
It was with a real success that these machines were involved in motorcycle racing, winning the Bol d'Or in 1949. Then in the mid-sixties, was the decline, like many other French brands of the time, faced with the arrival of the scooter, then what would become the onslaught of Japanese motorcycles.

The Renaissance.
But more than forty years after producing the last Gima, a French company is ready for the challenge of producing almost "identical" (given the new regulations) motorcycle model GIMA 125 cm3 -4 speed-, with a small 4 cylinder motor model who had been a real success in the fifties.
And the result lives up to expectations: the engine and chassis are nearly identical to the fifties bike, with few concessions to the mandatory rules (turn signals, mirrors).
Lovers of old bikes will find the wonder and excitement of yesterday Gima.
